For a more standard length lens, around the 50mm length, I used to carry a fixed-length Nikon 50mm Z series, but I've shelved that lens and now carry this 24-70 almost everywhere I go, as the zoom gives me the flexibility to better frame shots in the 50mm range area, and the f2.8 works in practically all light conditions.

Re: APS-C equivalent to the 24-70 f2.8S. In reply to madeinlisboa • Sep 8, 2021. 1. It’ covers a wider range and not f2.8 all the way out, but the NIkon 16-80mm f/2.8-4 DX might be closest. You’ll need the FTZ if you’re using it on a Z camera of course. When I had DX DSLRs I used this lens and it was pretty good.

The 24-70 f4 has been favorably reviewed against most of the older F2.8 variants, and actually beat them, in regards to IQ irregardless of the money! As far as focal length is concerned, he looses the wide end, and picks up a little on the long. For him it is ideal. He never has been a wide angle shooter.
